Sun, 03 Dec 2023

Hawaiian Airlines have reached an agreement to combine in a US $1.9 billion deal, expanding their service and benefits for travellers. This merger is expected to be fully in place by mid-2025, yet with both brands still operating separately within their respective hubs, Alaskan Airlines at Seattle and Hawaiian Airlines at Honolulu.

This combination is a unique opportunity to advance Alaska Airlines journey with a company that shares its commitment to service, excellence, and care. With Alaskan Airlines continuing aim to elevate the travel experience and continued expansion of connectivity through their 29 partner airlines, including the oneworld Alliance, this combination allows a wider network of availability for travellers.

The Hawaiian Airlines brand will remain and be reflected on their planes, at airports and other prominent places. It will exist alongside the Alaska Airlines brand, but be supported by a single operating platform and industry-leading loyalty program.

Guests will benefit from more choice and increased international connectivity, with Hawaiian Airlines also recently announcing that ticket sales for its 787 Dreamliner are on sale. With a combined network of 138 destinations including non-stop service to 29 international destinations such as Tokyo, Seoul, Sydney and Aucland, as well as over 1,200 global destinations through the oneworld Alliance. This combination will see the airlines have a fleet of 365 narrow and wide body planes.

Alaska Airlines maintains a mostly North America network with a fleet of single aisle jets, while Hawaiian Airlines connects the US mainland to Asia and the South Pacific, and has 12 Boeing 787 Dreamliners due for delivery from early 2024, which you can read about here. The network of both airlines carry almost 55 million passengers each year, with less than 3% of their routes overlapping.
