SWISS Alpine Business Class Lounge Review

Sun, 19 Jan 2020

We checked in to the new SWISS Alpine Lounge while in transit in Zurich. The new lounge which opened in late 2019 is located airside in the Schengen Area of the airport, and although it is not the largest lounge available to use, it is the newest and we found it to be the quietest.

Flying in from within Europe, the entrance to the lounge is right after you arrive in the airport in Terminal A. We had a while in the airport before flying out to Bangkok so before transferring to the Non-Schengen Terminal we decided to have a look at lounge Terminal A lounges.

The ‘Alpine’ experience of the SWISS Alpine Lounge starts at the entrance. The lounge is located upstairs and you can opt to take the lift or walk up the spiral staircase which includes a Swiss Alps immersive experience including projections on the walls and taped noises of the Alps.

At the top of the stairs is the welcome desk, beyond this point the lounge is split into 2 distinct sections (important to note as I almost missed half of the lounge).

To the left of the welcome desk is the dining area of the lounge. Here there is plenty of dining style seating including tables and a row of window booths with views of the Alps.

The dining area has a selection of self serve food and drinks including hot soup, a salad bar, and a Swiss muesli wall with a myriad of nuts, seeds and flavours to mix and a match. Drink options include a full range of wine and beer, soft drinks and juices.

At the end of the dining section is a Chef station with an on site chef cooking Swiss specialties such as raclette in a wood oven.

The other side of the SWISS Alpine Lounge, to the right of the Welcome Desk, in the lounge side of the lounge. Although initially confusing, in reality, the clear separation of the Lounge ‘Zones’ makes for a very enjoyable experience with the lounge side being a very calm and peaceful space to relax.

The SWISS Alpine Lounges is cosy like an Alpine Chalet while at the same time being modern and sophisticated. With separate lounging areas set up to serve a different purpose, its a great place to relax and recharge in between flights while you escape the hustle and bustle of the airport.

There are no food stations in the lounging side however there are some high-tech tea and coffee machines.

In the centre of the lounge, sperating the 2 main rooms, is a series of ‘work pods’ quiet spaces as well as large bathrooms stocked with luxury products.

Although smaller than the other SWISS Zurich Airport Lounges and with less amenities, we highly recommend spending some time in the SWISS Alpine Lounge. The space is extremely comfortable, the facilities are all new (only a month old at the time of our visit) and the lounge has a great feeling of serenity. It also seems like most people either don’t know about the SWISS Alpine Lounge or head to the other lounges out of ease of habit, so you’re more likely to get some space to yourself to rest and recoup.

The SWISS Alpine Lounge is open to business class passengers flying on SWISS and other Lufthansa Group Airlines, Miles & More Senators, and Star Alliance Gold Members.
