Earlier this month Scenic Luxury Cruises and Tours celebrated the official christening of the new Scenic Eclipse, the world’s first discovery yacht.

Having sailed from Reykjavik Iceland, the Scenic Eclipse arrived at the Manhattan Cruise Terminal for the official christening against the iconic New York City backdrop. The ceremony was attended by the ships Godmother Dame Helen Mirren, who said “I was thrilled to be invited to take on the role of Scenic Eclipse godmother, even more so now that I have stepped aboard and seen the level of design detail and technology that have gone into her creation. She is an exceptional cruising experience, and I’m honoured to have christened her. I wish her crew and guests many years of sailing adventures and discovery”. The ships co-owners Glen and Karen Moroney were also in attendance and spoke of the creative drive and determination to deliver such a unique sailing experience and detailed the history of the build from its first conception to the end product.

Scenic Eclipse has two six-passenger helicopters on board
The ship is full of state of the art technology to ensure passengers have the smoothest and most comfortable ride possible, including innovative zero-speed stabilizer fins, 50% larger than standard to provide greater stability cutting roll by more than 85%, the highest passenger ship ice-class rating, navigation, safety systems and food refrigeration, state-of-the-art bridge systems, and a GPS dynamic positioning system allowing for stationary positioning without an anchor, reducing environmental impact and enhancing safety during Zodiac operations.
The Scenic Eclipse features 114 all-verandah suites ranging from 32 square meters to 247. Guests can enjoy ten different dining options including Asian Fusion, French fine dining, Chef’s Table and a poolside buffet. The onboard Senses Spa is filled with the latest technology-equipped gym, and a separate yoga and Pilates studio. Two six-guest helicopters and one six-guest submarine, two plunge pools and a state-of-the-art theatre ensure there is no shortage of entertainment for guests while onboard. All of this is accompanied by the award-winning Scenic service with a butler for all guests and almost a 1:1 guest-to-staff ratio.
