Iberia Airlines Resumes Madrid-Tokyo Flights With Airbus A350

Wed, 20 Dec 2023

Spanish flag carrier Iberia Airlines is set to reconnect Spain and Japan with the resumption of its Tokyo flights next year. Starting on October 27th, 2024, the year round service will use Iberia’s flagship Airbus A350, offering the only direct link between two countries. Departing from Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport, flights will operate on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays, with returns from Tokyo’s Narita International Airport on Mondays Fridays and Sundays.

This significant route resumption follows alterations to the flight path due to the closure of Russian airspace. Passengers on the round-trip will experience a unique journey, circumnavigating the globe, taking advantage of wind patterns for increased efficiency. Iberia’s commercial and network development and alliances director, María Jesús López Sólas, expressed Iberia Airlines commitment to Asia and the growth potential of the region.

Iberia Airlines Resumes Madrid-Tokyo Flights with Airbus A350

The chosen aircraft for this resumed route is Iberia Airlines Airbus A350, configured with 330 seats, including 31 in Business Class, 24 in Premium Economy and 293 in Economy. The Business Class cabins feature a 1-2-1 layout and seats which are adapted for the wider A350XWB cabin, convert to a 76” Flat Bed. This marks the first Asian route to be resumed by Iberia since the COVID-19 Pandemic.

During the Winter season, running from October 27th to March 25th, Iberia Airlines aims to provide over 45,000 seats between Spain and Japan. The flight schedule is strategically timed to facilitate convenient connections to Iberia's extensive network across Spain, Europe, and Latin America.

With Iberia Airlines resuming Madrid-Tokyo flights by end of next year, this route resumption has become a sole direct link between Spain and Japan, increasing opportunity for flight options to Europe from East Asia. It’s worth noting that Iberia codeshares with Japan Airlines, and with their premium seating options akin to leading airlines Emirates and Etihad, it provides more alternative route options for passengers travelling ex. Australia. In addition, eliminating the challenge of seat allocation with Iberia, through Japan Airlines, allows travellers to enjoy a more seamless travel experience.
