The winners of Business Traveller’s Cellars in the Sky Awards for 2019 were announced overnight. The annual awards recognise the best business and first-class wines served by airlines around the world with Malaysia Airlines winning the gold medal for the Best Overall Cellar.
Qantas received Best First Class Cellar, Cathay Pacific was awarded Silver and All Nippon Airways (ANA) and Singapore Airlines tieing for Bronze. While for Business Class Malaysia Airlines won Gold for Best Business Class Cellar, with Qatar Airways and Air New Zealand jointly winning.
In other categories, ANA won best First Class Red with its Domaine David Duband, Nuit-Saint-Georges Les Pruliers 1er cru 2017, Burgundy, France, with Air New Zealand winning best Business Class Red for its Brennan B2, 2016, Queenstown, Central Otago, New Zealand.
For best White wine Qantas won best First Class with a Shaw and Smith Chardonnay (Shaw and Smith Lenswood Vineyard Chardonnay 2017, Adelaide Hills, Australia) the best Business Class White was won by ANA with a Stella Bella Skuttlebut Sauvignon Semillon (Stella Bella Skuttlebutt Sauvignon Semillon 2018, Forest Grove, Margaret River, Australia).
This year the awards introduced a new category the Best Rosé, in First Class, this was awarded to American Airlines for the Château Gassier Le Pas du Moine Côtes de Provence Rosé 2018, Sainte-Victoire, France. In Business Class this was won by Air New Zealand with Two Rivers Isle of Beauty Rosé 2018 (Southern Valleys, Marlborough, New Zealand).
Best Business Class Sparkling was taken out by Malaysia Airlines with Taittinger Comtes de Champagne (2007, France).
Emirates took Gold medals in both Best First Class and Best Business Class Fortified/Dessert wine with Klein Constantia Vin de Constance (2013 South Africa) and Dow’s Colheita Port (1992, Douro Valley, Portugal).
