Australia Welcomes New 787 Polaris Studio from United

In October 2026, United Airlines are set to introduce the elevated Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners to the Sydney-Houston route.

United Airlines will be bringing its next-generation of elevated Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners to its Sydney-Houston route from October 26 of this year. These aircrafts will operate this route on a daily basis during the Northern Hemisphere’s winter season, coming to a close in late March of 2027. This is particularly significant as it’s currently the carrier's longest non-stop service.

United Polaris Studio Suite

What’s Included in the New 787 Polaris Studio?

In response to growing demand for premium travel, the elevated 787 fleet’s Premium Economy and Business Class cabins will take up two-thirds of the plane. There are 56 of the newly designed Polaris Suites and eight of the brand-new Polaris Studio - that’s two Polaris Business Class cabins with four Polaris Studio suites in each for a total of eight Studio suites.

The new studio is spacious and feature-packed. In fact, it’s 25% larger than the berth of the standard Polaris. Travellers in the studio will enjoy a massive 27-inch OLED video screen, a velvet throw, hoodie-pyjamas, and even an upgraded dining experience - such as an amuse-bouche of Ossetra caviar paired with Laurent-Perrier Cuvée Rosé Champagne. Window studio seats will also include a larger ottoman, perfect for those travelling with others. The Polaris Studio is a cost-efficient upgrade from the Polaris, described by United as “dynamic” pricing.

An Elevated Polaris Experience & More

The standard Polaris Business Class suites have also received notable improvements. These seats will now include privacy doors, updated seat configurations which better utilise personal space, and a 19-inch 4K OLED screen. These cabins also now include an alternating layout with some seats facing towards the aisle and others away - centre pairs can also be adapted for those flying together. United’s Boeing 787s have also made steps to improve the inflight Internet experience with Starlink satellite Wi-Fi available on a gate-to-gate basis.
