United Airlines has begun selling tickets for its highly anticipated long-haul product, the Polaris Studio Suite. This marks the airline’s most ambitious overhaul in years. Found on the 787-9 Dreamliner, Business Class travellers can expect the most high-end suites United has to offer with bigger screens, sharper seats, and more.

The New Polaris Studio Suites

The airline has purposefully decided to launch these elevated cabins on its long-haul routes, as the immediate focus of the Studio Suites is to improve seat comfort, privacy, and onboard service. These new suites will first be seen on flights from San Francisco to Singapore on 22 April, which takes roughly 17 hours in total. The San Francisco to Singapore service will be followed by the San Francisco to London service on 30 April.

These new suites can be found at the front of the aircraft in a 1-2-1 configuration. The Polaris Studio offers eight oversized suites within the Business Class cabin. They are approximately 25 per cent larger than the standard Polaris suite and have been designed to feature perks usually found within their First Class cabin. These mark the airline's first time offering enclosed privacy suites. However, the sliding privacy doors are not yet operational due to certification delays. They’ll include 27-inch 4K OLED screens, wireless charging, Bluetooth capabilities, and an ottoman with a seatbelt - allowing a second passenger to join during meal service. Business Class travellers will also enjoy a more elaborate onboard experience. Such as osetra caviar service, upgraded bedding, and premium amenity kits.

What’s Next for United?

United have also redesigned its standard Polaris Business Class, introducing 56 suites with sliding doors, 19-inch 4K OLED screens, and updated seat configurations - now including an alternating layout with some seats facing towards the aisle and others away. Centre pairs can also be adapted for passengers travelling together.

The airline plans to deploy at least 30 of the Dreamliner aircrafts with the newly designed interiors by the end of 2027. The rollout is part of a continued effort to strengthen its place amongst Business Class travellers. The Polaris Studio Suites address several weak points for United, in regard to both seat design and onboard technology.
