How Often Will These Flights Operate?

In the past, Las Vegas has appeared on the airline’s list of upcoming routes to the United States (alongside Chicago and Seattle). This recent development comes from the ‘surprising’ demand the airline has seen on previous special charter flights for NRL season-opening football matches. Now, the airline will move away from the seasonal service and operate three flights to Las Vegas on a weekly basis.

“Rome and Sapporo have shown us there's real demand for seasonal services to destinations people want to visit at certain times of year, and we're continuing to expand those direct connections around the world,” says Qantas International CEO, Cam Wallace.

This is fantastic news for travellers as Las Vegas is a major music hub and a frequent conference venue for business travellers. As well as a gateway to the American Southwest and its attractions, such as the Grand Canyon.

“Last year, 745,000 Americans visited Australia, and we look forward to welcoming even more visitors down under with the commencement of these new direct flights,” Wallace remarked.

What Will Direct Flights to Las Vegas Look Like?

The 14-hour journey will operate on Qantas’ Boeing 787 Dreamliner and shift away from the conventional stopovers in Los Angeles and San Francisco. The 787 aircraft offers 42 Business Class suites with fully flat beds. Plus, free Wi-Fi for all passengers.

These flights will depart Sydney on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 29 December 2026 through to 12 March 2027. For example, the QF55 flight will fly from Sydney at 9 PM and arrive in Las Vegas at 4:55 PM later that same day. QF56 will then depart Las Vegas in the evening and arrive in Sydney two days later.

"Our historic fleet renewal is giving us the flexibility to deploy aircraft where we see demand, opening up route possibilities that simply weren't there before. Las Vegas becomes our 101st destination and is a great example of how we're using that capability,” added Wallace.
