Singapore Airlines Lounge Sydney Review

Our Marketing Manager, Blake, was flying from Sydney to Miami in Business Class on United Airlines. United Airlines doesn’t have its own lounge in Sydney International Airport, but as a Star Alliance member, you can access the two Star Alliance lounges available to Business Class passengers. For this trip, Blake chose to have breakfast and pre-flight time at the SilverKris Lounge, the Singapore Airlines lounge in Terminal 1. Keep reading to find out what he thought of the Singapore Airlines SilverKris Lounge.

Terminal Location

Sydney’s SilverKris Lounge is located on Level 3 in the international terminal, in the same general area as the other airline lounges and directly next door to the Air New Zealand lounge. It sits right at the far end of the terminal near gates 50 to 63, which is a fair distance after clearing security.

That said, every time I have flown Star Alliance airlines and used either the SilverKris or Air New Zealand lounges, my departure gate has always been very close by (in the 50’s). This makes it a quick and easy walk once boarding begins, despite the initial walk through the terminal.

First impressions

The Singapore Airlines SilverKris Lounge is positioned right next to the Air New Zealand lounge. Most Star Alliance guests are usually directed to the Air New Zealand lounge, as it is much larger and designed to handle higher passenger volumes.
Because of this, the SilverKris Lounge often feels like a quieter alternative. It is noticeably smaller and more intimate than many other international lounges at Sydney, which creates a calmer and more relaxed atmosphere.

Despite the lounge being renovated in 2024, The décor is beginning to show its age in some areas, but it remains a pleasant space overall. The design features wood finishes, brushed copper tones, and soft whites and greens. Some of the armchairs looked tired with visible wear, and some of the carpet looked a little worn-out in high-traffic areas, but the lounge itself was very clean and well-maintained.

Large windows line much of the lounge, offering excellent tarmac views and letting in plenty of natural light.

Seating and workspace

There is a good mix of seating options throughout the lounge, and most seats include either power points or USB-C charging.

Given the smaller size of the lounge, it was already quite busy at around 7:30am. The morning rush is a popular time for lounge access, particularly for long-haul international departures.

At the back of the lounge are several high-walled booths with small desks or tables. These are ideal for getting some work done, taking a meeting, or enjoying a bit of privacy before boarding.

There is also a long row of bar-style seating in a narrow wing along the window. This area feels very private and is arguably the best spot in the lounge for plane watching.

Food and beverage offering

Breakfast was a pleasant surprise for a lounge of this size. I ordered an almond flat white from the barista, which was made to perfection. I also helped myself to some bacon and scrambled eggs before finding a quiet spot at the back of the lounge to enjoy breakfast.

Barista made coffee is available alongside a solid selection of continental options, including fresh bread, fruit, yoghurt, bircher muesli, and cereals. There are also hot food options such as scrambled eggs, sausages, bacon, and a small range of Asian breakfast dishes.

The drinks offering is mostly self-service, with wines, beers, spirits, and a full range of non alcoholic beverages available.

Things to be Aware of

One important thing to note is that there are no boarding calls or flight updates announced within this lounge. You will need to keep an eye on the airline app or step out to check the departure boards from time to time.

Final thoughts - Overall experience

The SilverKris Lounge at Sydney International Airport is a comfortable and well-located option for Star Alliance passengers. While the décor is dated in places and the lounge is smaller than others in the terminal, it delivers a calm atmosphere, which is perfect for a quiet meal or getting some work done. The lounge has nice tarmac views, solid breakfast options, and good access to power and charging.

It is a particularly good choice for travellers who value a quieter lounge experience before a long-haul flight; however, overall, I do prefer the Air New Zealand lounge and in future will likely head straight there before my next Star Alliance flight.
