Qantas customers passing through Adelaide Airport can look forward to an enhanced travel experience, with the construction of a new lounge precinct set to begin this month.
New Domestic Business Lounge and Qantas Club Revamp
The Qantas Adelaide lounge redevelopment includes a brand-new Domestic Business Lounge inspired by Kangaroo Island's Flinders Chase National Park and a complete refurbishment of the existing Qantas Club. The first phase of the project involves fitting out the Qantas Club, expected to open mid-November, while the new Domestic Business Lounge is scheduled to welcome its first guests in mid-2025. Although the overall footprint of the lounge space remains unchanged, a redesign of under-utilised areas will result in a more than 10 percent increase in seating capacity.
South Australian-Inspired Interiors
The interiors of the new Qantas Adelaide lounge precinct will reflect the beauty of South Australia, drawing inspiration from the state's landscapes, culture and renowned culinary offerings. South Australian-sourced furniture, lighting and natural materials will feature prominently, along with fittings curated by the Jam Factory and artwork created by local First Nations Artists.
Investment in Global Lounge Network
This redevelopment is part of Qantas' $100 million investment in upgrading its global lounge network. Phil Capps, Qantas Executive Manager for Product and Service, highlighted the significance of the upgrades for customers flying from Adelaide. "Our local design philosophy means the new Adelaide Lounge Precinct will celebrate the best of South Australia. From the furnishings and artworks to the premium food and beverages, we want to give our customers a taste of South Australia every time they fly with us", Capps stated.
Enhanced Customer Experience
Additional seating will be installed throughout the precinct, providing more space to work, with around 80 per cent of seats having access to power stations and device ports. During the construction phase, the existing Qantas Club will continue to operate for eligible customers from one hour prior to the first Qantas-operated service until the last departure. A 'grab and go' offering, including premium breakfast options and barista coffee, will be available during busy morning peak times if the lounges reach capacity.
Qantas Adelaide Lounge Delays and New Timelines
The Qantas Adelaide lounge overhaul, first announced in August 2022, was initially set to begin in the second half of 2023, with the new Qantas Business Lounge expected to open in stages from 2024. Despite delays, the real work is now commencing, promising significant improvements.
Upgraded Facilities
Once completed, the Qantas Adelaide lounge precinct will accommodate 570 travellers across three lounges. The new Qantas Business Lounge will have a capacity of nearly 200 travellers and feature a spaciour open-plan layout with a large near-circular bar, high workbenches and various lounge areas.
Chairman's Lounge Upgrade
The redevelopment will also include an upgrade to the exclusive Qantas Chairman's Lounge, a private retreat for members of this invitation-only programme. The Adelaide Chairman's Lounge is expected to undergo a full upgrade by 2025, although specific design details remain undisclosed.
Through this comprehensive redevelopment, the Qantas Adelaide Lounge precinct aims to elevate the airport experience for its customers. Mr Capps wants to ensure travellers "enjoy a taste of South Australia's finest elements" every time they fly.
