What to Expect on New Cathay Pacific Business Class

Arguably always a top-quality Business Class product, the Aria Suites dial it up in every way. Benefit from extra privacy with just 48 suites, all accompanied by sliding doors and configured in a 1-2-1 cabin. Honing in on the ‘quiet luxury’ aesthetic, each seat features premium materials, elegant design and tasteful LED lighting.

Retaining their popular layout, passengers are angled away from the aisle, which highlights Cathay’s dedication to putting passengers first. This new Aria Suite is almost just a highly evolved version of the current (and still great) Boeing 777, A330 and A350 Business Class. The additional gently curved sliding door and subtle nooks reflect the ‘quiet luxury’ design of the suite.

Travellers will also benefit from the deliberate gap between the lightweight door panel and the housing of the seat in front. This has been put in place so the two don’t bump up hard against each other during take-off, landing or any turbulence, avoiding a loud thump.

Why to Melbourne?

Travellers on flights CX104 and CX105 between Melbourne and Hong Kong will experience the revamped Boeing 777’s.

The news from Cathay comes as it and Qantas are set to face increased competition on the Melbourne-Hong Kong route, with challenger Hong Kong Airlines to operate daily using Airbus A330s and add 93,000 seats between the two cities starting in December.

“We’re seeing strong momentum out of Australia with Hong Kong rebounding as both a destination and a vital hub for onward travel,” notes Frosti Lau, Cathay’s Regional General Manager for the Southwest Pacific.

This includes Hong Kong once again being a springboard into mainland China, which now allows Australians travelling for tourism or business to stay without a visa for up to 30 days.
Additionally, “many travellers have continued to fly to destinations such as London, Tokyo, Sapporo, Rome and Paris,” Lau said.
