Finnair Business Class A350 Review 2026

We tested the new Melbourne to Bangkok route with Finnair

Marketing and Content Coordinator, Anjelica, was lucky enough to be one of the first people on the new Melbourne to Bangkok route onboard the A350 Finnair Business Class product. As a Business Class seat that does not recline, but turns into a fully flat bed, Anjelica was excited to experience the product.

If you’re travelling to Europe and are a value-conscious Qantas frequent flyer, Finnair is the way to go. They’re a leading member of the oneworld alliance, flying to 100+ destinations in over 35 countries across Asia, Europe and North America. The new Melbourne route marks a completely new destination for Finnair and connects Australia directly to Finnair’s extensive network via Finnair’s Helsinki hub. Besides smooth connections for customers, this structure ensures high operational efficiency and good utilisation of Finnair’s A350 fleet.

How is the Check-In Process, Boarding and Welcome?

As usual, Business Class passengers had a dedicated check-in counter. Being the first week of the service, you could tell that staff were a little unprepared and all over the place. Although it wasn’t the smoothest check-in process, staff were very welcoming and polite. Once onboard, I was shown to my seat and was happy to see a couple pillows, an amenity kit and the menus already there for me. I was given a warm towel and the iconic blueberry juice to start off with. It was a little bit sweet for my liking but very delicious! There was also the choice of champagne.

In general, the staff were quite friendly and warm. They were always happy to assist when needed and talked me through the menu items when I had questions. The layers of service aren’t as over the top as the Middle Eastern carriers I have flown with, but it’s not necessarily a bad thing.

What’s the Finnair Business Class Seat Like?

Finnair's Business Class cabin on the A350 features a 1-2-1 configuration, giving every passenger direct aisle access. The seating layout is designed with alternating side-table positions: seats on the left side of the cabin have their side table to the left, while seats on the right have theirs to the right. The centre seats feature side tables positioned between the seats, with an adjustable privacy divider that can be raised or lowered depending on whether you’re travelling alone or with a companion.

I was in seat 6A, a window seat on the left side of the aircraft. I really love the cocoon shape of the seat, it almost acts like a privacy door without actually having one because it comes out quite far. You won’t see anyone else’s feet, let alone feel like anyone can look over into your little pod. The seat is wide and dividers are tall and the cocoon style makes it incredibly private. I love the ratio from your seat to the 18-inch entertainment screen too. Sometimes on other aircrafts it can be a little far away for my liking, so compared to other Business Class products I have travelled on, this one felt very close.

The fully flat bed was a big standout for me onboard Finnair Business Class. It was super cosy with the mattress topper as well as the blanket that they provided. I was so surprised at how long it was and how much room I had to spread out. It was super simple to use as well. When you’re sitting upright, it feels like your own couch that you can kind of make the space your own. It has a great lounging position. Then when you want to sleep, simply lift the bottom part of the seat up, and it creates a 2 metre fully flat bed!

My only consideration would be getting used to manually sliding your body down the seat to achieve the fully reclined position. Unlike a traditional reclining seat, where the controls do the work for you, this requires a little more physical movement to get yourself settled.

What are the Dining Options Onboard Finnair Business Class?

It was a very pleasant dining experience onboard Finnair Business Class. There were two meal times; straight after take off and dinner before we landed. The first service consisted of a couple starters, a main to pick and a dessert you could pick. With the starters, you didn’t get a choice but got served both dishes, which on my flight was a smoked salmon and a burratina. I think these were the two best tasting meals of the whole flight! It was paired well with side plates and honestly tasted restaurant quality. To be honest, they’re not the safest options if you don’t like smoked fish or cheese, but if you like it, you’re gonna love it. For me, it was up there with the Arabic Mezze on Emirates Business Class!

For mains, there was a choice between a beef fillet, miso-glazed salmon and a potato gnocchi with mushroom. I first asked for the beef, however, they had already run out which was a bit of a shame. So I opted to have salmon again for my main meal. It was quite good, yet soaked in a bit too much miso in my opinion, making it a little salty and overpowering. Dessert was a selection of cheese with quince paste and you could choose one sweet treat; an orange almond cake or honey crunch cake. I opted for the honey crunch cake which was a delicious balance of zesty and chocolatey.

Serving sizes were a little on the smaller side but keep in mind that there was another dish served just before landing. This was dinner and you could choose between a mushroom risotto or oriental chicken stir-fry. I opted for the latter and really enjoyed it! It was a decent portion size, with a side salad, bread roll and some fruit to pair it all together. The only thing about the menu is that it doesn’t actually say what is vegan, vegetarian or gluten-free. I would love to see that added to the menu but I guess you can just ask a staff member.

Beverages include a range of spirits, cocktails, mocktails, wine, beer and hot beverages, soft drinks and juices. My personal favourites were the premixed Northern Blush Cocktail and the Blueberry Juice - both iconic flavours on the Finnair Businesss Class.

What to Expect with Entertainment, Technology and Amenities?

Enjoy an 18” touchscreen entertainment system which is very easy to use and functional. It has everything from movies, tv shows, the menu and flight info. There’s a variety of new releases and familiar favourites. Excluding Business Class Lite fares, you are able to connect to Wi-Fi and have complimentary internet for the whole flight. You can use it for messaging as well as browsing the web.

There is wireless charging available, although I found it a little intermittent. Personally, it's never my preferred or go-to way of charging my phone, but it's a nice option for those who like to use it. In terms of charging ports, you'll find both USB-A and USB-C connections tucked inside the small storage compartment to your left. This compartment also houses a set of headphones and a remote control for the in-flight entertainment system. That said, the touchscreen entertainment display is intuitive and easy enough to navigate on its own. You'll also find an adjustable, dimmable reading light, which is a handy little feature for when you want some extra light without disturbing the rest of the cabin.

To be honest, the amenity kit provided is one of the most basic ones I have seen in Business Class. There’s a small Marimekko pouch and inside you get a dental kit, earplugs and an eye mask. However, you can also ask for lip balm, socks, mouthwash, comb and a shaving kit on this flight.

Overall Finnair Business Class Impressions

I was genuinely impressed with Finnair's Business Class A350 product. The standout for me was definitely the seat. It’s spacious, incredibly private and transforms into a very comfortable 2-metre fully flat bed. While the unconventional seat design takes a little getting used to, I actually think it offers a great alternative to the traditional reclining Business Class seat. The dining experience was another highlight, particularly the quality of the starters, and I found the cabin crew warm, friendly and attentive throughout the flight.

For Australian travellers heading to Europe, Finnair is certainly worth considering. With its new Melbourne to Bangkok service, convenient connections through Helsinki and the added benefit of oneworld frequent flyer earning opportunities, it provides a great option for Qantas Frequent Flyers looking to maximise their Status Credits while travelling comfortably.
