One of the first stops would have to be Pastéis de Belém for iconic custard tarts, these cinnamon-dusted tarts are made using an ancient recipe created by monks in 1837. Take time to sample the treats inside the classic blue and white building or while strolling around the Belém neighbourhood.

Belém is also home to a couple of UNESCO sites and historic landmarks that pay tribute to Portugal's seafaring past, like the Discoveries Monument and Tower of Belém, as well as the Jerónimos Monastery. It is easy to tick some of the cities most beautiful sites in one afternoon all while enjoying a delicious treat.
