Cathay Pacific Reintroduces Direct Flights from Hong Kong to Adelaide
The reinstatement of flights between Hong Kong and Adelaide will start from 11 November 2025. This milestone will re-establish the vital air link that has been suspended since March 2020.

Cathay Pacific has announced the resumption of direct flights between Hong Kong and Adelaide. The reinstatement of said flights will officially commence on 11 November 2025. This milestone will re-establish the vital air link that has been suspended since March 2020 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This development will also reintroduce South Australian travellers to a wider range of international destinations through the airline’s network. If you’re interested in flying with Cathay Pacific on these newly reintroduced flights, please look into the Cathay Pacific Business Class deal or contact our team of Airfare Specialists.

What Does This Mean?

The reintroduction of these flights marks the highly anticipated return of all previous international connections that Adelaide had before the global pandemic.

“This is a huge milestone for South Australia’s tourism industry, as it means all international routes flying into Adelaide before the COVID-19 outbreak are back – providing further connection to potential visitors globally,” said Tourism Minister, Zoe Bettison.

The flights will operate on the A350-900 aircraft three times weekly. This is expected to encourage and facilitate further travel and commerce between South Australia and Asia. The aircraft has a capacity of 280 seats. It was announced that the service will be seasonal and continue until 27 March 2026 from Adelaide every Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday.

Why Is This Important?

Reinstated flights to Hong Kong are anticipated to have a significant economic impact on South Australia. Tourism-related activities alone are estimated to bring $17 million annually into Adelaide’s local economy - with the added value of freight exports said to be $15 million annually.

“Delivering a boom for tourism and trade, the reinstated route is estimated to generate $32 million for South Australia each year, driving appeal to both work and travel in our great State,” added South Australian Premier, Peter Malinauskas.

As stated, with these new flights to Hong Kong Cathay Pacific brings greater global connectivity. Their network not only includes Asia-Pacific but also destinations across Africa, Europe, the Middle East, and North America.
